Ottawa, ON – Greg McLean, Conservative Shadow Minister for Natural Resources, issued a statement in response to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s failure to act with urgency in Canada’s interest during a meeting with U.S. President Biden concerning Enbridge’s Line 5:

“When it comes to standing up for Canadian interests, the Trudeau government has failed.

“Enbridge’s Line 5 supports approximately 30,000 jobs here in Canada and is a key pillar of our industrial infrastructure. While the future of this project is in jeopardy, the most Justin Trudeau would say during a meeting with U.S President Biden this week was an assurance to continue to ‘monitor’ the situation. Canada’s economic and resource security needs more than monitoring – it depends on strong leadership.

“Prime Minister Trudeau needs to make clear to the U.S. President that the 1977 Transit Pipelines Treaty must be respected, and any breach will be addressed seriously by the Canadian government.

“Canadians can’t afford more of the same inaction and failure to secure Canadian jobs under this Liberal government. Canada’s Recovery Plan is our plan to secure the future and stand up for Canadian jobs and energy security at home and on the world stage.

“If you are not worried about securing our economy and jobs, you have three parties to choose from. If you are, you only have one choice – Canada’s Conservatives.”
