Statement by Greg McLean following the Alberta Court of Appeal decision on the Impact Assessment Act

Following today's Alberta Court of Appeal decision, I released the following statement:

“Today, the highest court in Alberta deemed the Liberals’ no more pipelines Bill C-69 to be unconstitutional. As Conservatives have said since the bill was introduced, the Impact Assessment Act is a massive overreach of jurisdiction that takes away autonomy and the opportunity for Canada’s provinces and Indigenous communities to develop our resources and our economic futures.

“The decision says the flawed and destructive Act imposed by the Liberals is a ‘threat to the division of powers guaranteed by the constitution, and to Canada itself.’ The Prime Minister has made it clear that he has no intention of respecting the constitutional rights of the provinces and will ignore strong advice and continue on the path of dividing Canadians. The Conservative Party of Canada will continue to support our world class resource sectors in Canada, and the ability for our provinces and Indigenous communities to be partners in developing the resources the world wants and needs that Canada has in abundance.”
