Finance Committee: Why is Equiterre Opposed to CCUS to Control Emissions?

At the Finance Committee on February 3, I had the opportunity to question Marc-André Viau, a Director with Équiterre, an environmentalist group (the one that our Environment Minister, Mr. Guilbeault, used to work for after his stint at Greenpeace).

Most climate experts believe that Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage is a key component for controlling emissions and reaching climate change goals, and is one of the technologies that is closest to being available for practical application, and yet M. Viau's organization is not supportive. They prefer developments like green hydrogen, which is much further away from being viable. I asked him why.
